Book Review - Iron Trial By Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

This book is the first in Holly Black and Cassandra Clare's Magisterium series.

It's about a boy named Callum Hunt who's mother died when he was just a small baby and from the incident that happened Callum ended up with a crippled leg. Also because of this incident Callums father blames his wife's death on magic. Now Callum is twelve he has to take the Iron Trial to see if he is good enough at magic to get into the Magisterium and his father has firmly told him he has to fail and that the mages at the Magisterium are not good. But Callum fails at failing and has to enter the Magisterium.

The book then goes on to Callum's first year in the Magisterium and the adventures and problems he and his new friends find themselves in.

I loved this book so much and though it had hints of Harry Potter coming through, it was still original and gripping. Callum was a lovely character and I loved him from the start as it told his tale of how people made fun of him because of his leg. The two friends he met at the Magisterium were irritating when we first met them but once you get to know them they are much more likable. The plot was interesting and the magic was also very intriguing to read about and I would give this book 4.5/5 stars. It was just that good! And the second one is out this September so I am excited to get that too.

I hope you give this a try and if you do tell me what you think and what you would rate it.

Leah.
