Book Review - Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan (Whole series review)

While I was on holidays I read the whole Percy Jackson series. It includes;
1. Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief,
2. Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters,
3. Percy Jackson and The Titan's Curse,
4. Percy Jackson and The Battle of The Labyrinth,
5. Percy Jackson and The Last Olympian.

They're about a boy named Percy Jackson who is 12 years old in the first book and gains a year each book. He is a demi-god which means he is half god and half human. The books follow his adventures and quests with his friends after he joins Camp Half-Blood which is a camp where all the half-bloods can stay and is the only place where they are safe.

I loved this series so much! All the books deserve 5/5 stars. There is a new adventure in each book and each is so gripping. Percy is such a funny and lovable character and I loved Rick Riordan's concept of the Greek Gods. I would recommend this series to anyone, It was brilliant.

I'm also reading the follow up series now called The Heroes of Olympus and it is so good already!

It's a quick to read series and I hope you give it a go!

Holidays!!

Image result for stack of booksHi everyone,

I went to Italy this summer for two weeks. It was so amazing and I got to read so much. In total I read 18 books over the two weeks, which I think is a record for me!

I also think this summer was the best ever from a reading point of view. I had a lot of time for it since my summer holidays are now longer in secondary school. I'm back to school in a week but I'll still read a good bit and do posts.

I hope you all had a great summer!

Book Review - Graduation Day By Joelle Charbonneau

Graduation DayThis book is the finale to The Testing trilogy.

A civil war is brewing in this book and a group of rebels are planning a war to stop The Testing. Cia Vale has been told she must lead the rebellion but if she does she will put her family and friends at risk. She must kill the people in charge of The Testing in order to get rid of it forever but Cia doesn't know if she will be able to do it.

I thought this book was amazing. I flew through it in one sitting. It pulled me in and the plot was so good and action packed and I never knew what was going to happen. This book also deserves 5/5 stars, I just loved this entire trilogy so much and when it ended I really wished there would be more to come.

These books were extremely well written and I'd say a lot of research and planning went into them.

Leave a comment to let me know what you think if you've read or are going to read this trilogy.

Book Review - Independent Study By Joelle Charbonneau

Independent StudyThis is the second book in The Testing trilogy.

Cia Vale is seventeen when this book starts. She has passed The Testing and now has a spot in University. But Cia remembers the horrors from The Testing even though her memory were wiped and now she has to try to find a way to stop The Testing forever.

This book was so gripping and intense. The action was really good and as new characters were introduced so were some interesting plot twists. It was just as good if not better than The Testing and I would highly recommend it. I also give this book 5/5 stars.

I really hope you try this trilogy as it is now one of my favourites and it was absolutely brilliant!!

Book Review - The Testing By Joelle Charbonneau

This is the first book in The Testing series.

It follows a sixteen year old girl named Cia Vale who lives in a small colony called Five Lakes. When she is accepted to participate in The Testing, along with three others from their colony, she can't wait to get started. But when her dad, who was in The Testing, tells her about his nightmare memories of his time there she starts to worry. Then she sets off for Tosu City to begin The Testing.

This book focuses mainly on Cia and her friends and how they are trying to pass The Testing and it explains what The Testing is about. I really loved this book and I loved the concept. It was really unique and was written really well. I also thought that from the very beginning all the characters were very individual and I could tell a lot of planning went into their personalities.

I would rate this book 5/5 stars!

Book Review - Beautiful Creatures By Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

This book is the first book in the Caster Chronicles series.
Beautiful Creatures: Book 1

It follows a boy named Ethan Wate who lives in a small town called Gatlin. Then when Lena Duchannes, who is a Caster, moves to town strange things start happening. On Lena's sixteenth birthday she will be claimed and become Dark or Light. And when she and Ethan become close friends together they try to break the curse on Lena and the rest of her family.

I liked this book but I found it quite boring at times and it was a really slow read. I didn't feel any connection towards the characters and I don't think I'll continue with the series for the moment anyway. I'd give this book a 3/5 stars.

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone really and the only thing I really enjoyed about it was the story line.

Let me know what you thought if you ever read this book.

Book Review - Iron Trial By Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

This book is the first in Holly Black and Cassandra Clare's Magisterium series.

It's about a boy named Callum Hunt who's mother died when he was just a small baby and from the incident that happened Callum ended up with a crippled leg. Also because of this incident Callums father blames his wife's death on magic. Now Callum is twelve he has to take the Iron Trial to see if he is good enough at magic to get into the Magisterium and his father has firmly told him he has to fail and that the mages at the Magisterium are not good. But Callum fails at failing and has to enter the Magisterium.

The book then goes on to Callum's first year in the Magisterium and the adventures and problems he and his new friends find themselves in.

I loved this book so much and though it had hints of Harry Potter coming through, it was still original and gripping. Callum was a lovely character and I loved him from the start as it told his tale of how people made fun of him because of his leg. The two friends he met at the Magisterium were irritating when we first met them but once you get to know them they are much more likable. The plot was interesting and the magic was also very intriguing to read about and I would give this book 4.5/5 stars. It was just that good! And the second one is out this September so I am excited to get that too.

I hope you give this a try and if you do tell me what you think and what you would rate it.

Book Review - Paper Towns By John Green

This is another stand alone book by John Green.

It's about a boy named Quentin, or sometimes referred to as Q in the book, and a girl named Margo who has lived across the street from Quentin since they were young. They used to be great friends but now they have grown apart. Then one night Margo, who loves to go on adventures, climbs through Quentin's bedroom window and takes him along on one of her many escapades. The next day Margo has disappeared but Quentin finds little clues that lead his and his friends to where Margo might have gone.

The majority of the book is about how Quentin and his friends are piecing together the clues and heading out to find Margo.

I liked this book and the character development and the relationships between them all was so lovely. I was very curious when Margo disappeared and the mystery of where she was was constantly going through my head. Some things were a little annoying though and sometimes the characters got on my nerve and the ending was also frustrating and didn't make much sense to me but I won't spoil it for you guys. Overall I'd give this book 4/5 stars. I still enjoyed it and it was a nice light read.

If you have opinions on this book please leave a comment.

Book Review - The Fault In Our Stars By John Green

This book is a stand alone book by John Green.

It follows two teenagers named Hazel and Augustus who met at a Cancer Support Group and how from there they get to know each other and their relationship gets stronger. Hazel suffers with lung cancer and Augustus suffered with cancer in his leg but it had been gone for a while when the book began.

From there the book follows their lives and their battles against their sicknesses and things that happen to them along the way.

I enjoyed this book but I think it was over hyped. It was written really well but it didn't really live up to my expectations. It was a really quick read but when I finished I didn't have the same wow factor and I wasn't in any way in love with the characters. But the concept was beautiful all the same. I'd give this book a 3.5/5 stars.

If you've read this please let me know what you thought. Thank you.

Book Review - Dorothy Must Die By Danielle Paige

This is the first book in Danielle's Dorothy Must Die series.

Image result for dorothy must dieIt is almost like a retelling of The Wizard of Oz but not exactly. It follows an ordinary girl from Kansas named Amy Gumm who gets swept away to Oz in a tornado and when she gets there she gets into trouble and then has to join an organisation to become free. She is then given a task to -

Remove the tin woodman's heart,
Steal the scarecrow's brains,
Take the lions courage
And then she must kill Dorothy!!

I enjoyed this book so much and the storyline was so good. I loved how in the book the author turned the original Oz story around so that Dorothy was evil.
I give this book 4.5/5 stars, it was such a quick read and I loved every character in it.

The second book in this series is The Wicked Will Rise and I cannot wait to read it!!!

I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as I did because I literally could not put this book down.
