Book Review - A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

This book was only published this year. It is the first novel in Sarah J. Maas' new series.

It follows a girl named Feyre who accidentally kills a faerie while she is out hunting. Then as her punishment she has to go live in the faerie kingdom for the rest of her life. There, she finds out the kingdom and her captive are full of secrets and she is being closely watched as the faerie kingdom becomes very dangerous. Then she learns she has to break a curse or she will lose the one she loves forever.

I loved this book just as much as Throne of Glass. The plot was gripping and unique and her character descriptions were amazing. I fell in love with all the characters and I am super excited for the next book.

I hope you give this book a try.

Book Review - Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

This book was just amazing!!!

It's about a sixteen year old named Simon who has a mysterious pen pal, Blue, that he emails. But then one of his emails falls into the wrong hands and Simon has to do everything he can to keep Martin from revealing the email to everyone. The story evolves from there and Simon has to decide whether or not he want to meet Blue or not. He knows Blue is a boy and that he goes to Simon's school and is trying to figure out who he is.

This is one of my favourite books of all time!! Simon is probably also my favourite character ever. It is such an amazing concept and is one of those books that stays in your mind for days after you finish it. The ending was so lovely and I was so happy for Simon and I would HIGHLY recommend this book!!!

Also a character in this book is named Leah and plays drums, as do I, so it was pretty funny when I found out this character was basically a fake me! :D

I really hope you give this a try and please comment about it if you do.

Book Review - Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman

This book is the first in Malorie Blackman's Noughts and Crosses series.

It is about racism but in a way that Black people also known as Crosses are the ruling ones and the white people, Noughts, are looked down on. It follows two people, Callum who is a Nought and Sephy who is a Cross. They have been friends since they were young because Callum's parents worked for Sephy's. Now they have to fight to stay together and meet in secret so no one finds out. A romance begins to build between them but it's not allowed in their society and it leads them both into danger.

This book was brilliant, the way it was written and the storyline was so different and interesting. The way she switched the roles of white and dark people was so amazing and it was so thought provoking for me to see what it was like for people at that time. I think everyone should read this book just to know what it was like for people back them but it is full with a lot of death and tragedy but so amazing at the same time.

Book Review - The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas

I bought this while in Dublin, it's a book of prequel novellas to go with the Throne of Glass series.

The book includes five novellas -
Image result for the assassins bladeThe Assassin and the Pirate Lord,
The Assassin and the Healer,
The Assassin and the Desert,
The Assassin and the Underworld
The Assassin and the Empire.

I loved reading these novellas because seeing into Calaena's background really helps you to get to know her. The novellas are set a while before Sam dies and I liked seeing their relationship develop before the accident.

My favourite novella was The Assassin in the Desert because Calaena learned how to be a brilliant assassin from the leader of the assassins in the desert.

I would recommend following up from the series with this if you would like to know more about Calaena's past.

Right now these are the only books that are publishing in the series and the next one, The Queen of Shadows, is coming out later this year. I can't wait for it to see what will happen next.

Book Review - Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

Image result for heir of fireThis book is the third novel in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas.

In this book Calaena is sent to Wendlyn so she will be protected, but Chaol, who sent her there, did not know there was danger there as well. There Calaena has to train to get the answers to the questions she desperately needs to know. But then a war is brewing and the King is gaining forces with the witches and Calaena will have to protect the fairies in Wendlyn.

In this book a lot of new characters are introduced and we begin to hear from other people's perspectives. Since Calaena has now been separated from the castle, we hear from her perspective as well as Chaol and Dorians in the castle. Along with this we hear from the perspective of the witches.

I didn't think this was the best book in the series at all and I found parts to be a bit boring and slow paced but overall it was a good book and hearing from the witches perspective was really intriguing.

If you've read this book I'll love to know if you thought differently and please comment if you do. I'd love to hear from you.

Book Review - Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

Image result for crown of midnightThis is the second book in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas.

Calaena has won the competition and has become the King's Champion. She now has to kill whoever the king tells her to and if she doesn't the King with kill her friends. In this book we get to know Dorian and the other characters more and magic becomes a bigger part in the series.

I thought this book was really good and the plot was very gripping. It was written really well and I loved that magic became a big part of it.

If you like books with action and magic, I would highly recommend this series!!!

Book Review - Throne Of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

This book is the first book in the Throne of Glass series.

It follows an eighteen year old assassin, Calaena Sardothien, who is serving a life sentence in the mines of Endovier. Then she is offered a chance to get out of the mines as long as she wins a tournament for the prince. She must fight against other thieves and assassins in order to win and become the King's Champion.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the plot was really interesting. The book contains action but contains some magic too. The characters are very well written and I would definitely recommend it.

If you try it or have read it already please tell me what you thought. I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

Book Shopping!!

Hello everyone, recently I went book shopping in Hodges Figgis on Dawson Street, Dublin. I spent two hours browsing while my mother went to have a coffee with a friend. I love looking around bookshops and often I just take a list of books to get on my kindle but every once in a while I like to buy the real thing to put on my shelf.

On this trip I got a total of seven books. I selected;
1. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl,
2. The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas,
3. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli,
4. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas,
5. Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton,
6. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige,
7. Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman.

So far out of this list I have read The Assassin's Blade and am in the middle of A Court of Thorns and Roses. I am planning to review each book once I'm finished reading them and if you have read any of them I would love to hear what you thought.

Book Review - Fairest by Marissa Meyer

This is a prequel novel that goes with the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer.

Image result for fairest marissa meyerIt follows Queen Levana as a young woman in Luna along with her family. I really liked this book and it was very interesting getting to know what happened to Levana when she was young. It was a cruel but wonderful book that showed why Levana turned out the way she did. If you have read this series or planning to I would recommend following up with this.

I hope you give it a try.
